Arrive at Santiago de Compostela International Airport.

You will be picked up and transferred to a predesignated area in downtown Santiago (wheelchair accessible transportation included)* At 12 pm and 5 pm, there will be an accessible charter bus that will transfer individuals to our hotel in Vigo.

On the first night, we will have a communal dinner as a group at the hotel, get to know one another, and turn in early for some good rest.

* If you plan to arrive EARLY, your airport pickup is included to get you from the airport to a Santiago hotel. All group members will transfer to Vigo on the same day.

This is where we will officially start walking/rolling Camino.

We begin walking directly from our hotel. Leaving Vigo, there is an initial climb (nothing too major) that soon levels out. The trail skirts the hillside, so there are great views of the city. On a clear day, you can see all the way out to the Cies Islands. The route continues through the towns of Paradela, Parada, Trasmañó, Rande, and Portela before reaching Redondela, where it meets up with the inland Portuguese Route.

Among Redondela’s most noteworthy sights are the railway viaducts built during the 1870s. There is also Santiago Church, consecrated by Archbishop Gelmírez in 1114. Every May, the town celebrates its Festa do Choco (Cuttlefish Festival).

At the end of the day, we will transfer back to Vigo for dinner at a restaurant and a good night's rest.

Transfer to Redondela after breakfast.

We will drive from the hotel in Vigo to where we stopped yesterday in Redondela. The trail will take you to the town of Arcade. This quaint fishing village is a great place to try some famous oysters.

Leaving Arcade, we will cross the Verdugo River over Ponte Sampaio. This bridge is where Napoleon’s army suffered one of its greatest defeats in Galicia. From Ponte Sampaio the Camino continues along a cobbled road taking pilgrims to the 13th century Church of Santa María, where you can enjoy magnificent views over the Bay of Vigo while walking towards Pontevedra.

At the end of the day, we will transfer back to Vigo for dinner at the hotel and a good night's rest.

Transfer to Pontevedra after breakfast.

Today, starting in the city of Pontevedra, the Camino will take you through chestnut groves and pine and eucalyptus woods. In the village of Ponte Cabras, take a minute to admire the rectory of Santa María de Alba. At Lombo da Maceira, you will spot a statue of Saint James with his walking stick, showing pilgrims the way. On your way to Caldas de Reis, you will pass the hamlet of Tivo with its lovely fountain and public washing area.

At the end of the day, we will eat dinner in Pontevedra and then transfer back to Vigo for a good night's rest.

Transfer to Caldas de Reis after breakfast.

From the spa town of Caldas de Reis, the Camino Portugués takes you across the river Umia and the hot springs that have given the town its name since Roman times. The Camino trail takes you once again to forests, gradually climbing to the village of Santa Mariña. After a descent, you will cross the river Fontenlo before making your way through pine forests to today’s final destination: the town of Padrón. This town is believed to be the arrival point of Saint James's body when it was brought to Santiago de Compostela by ship.

At the end of the day, we will transfer to Santiago to check into our new hotel, eat dinner, and get a good night's rest.

Today’s walk will take you through rural areas and small villages. The Camino passes several churches, built between the 12th – 18th centuries. A shorter walk, we will arrive in the hamlet of Teo — a great place to rest and grab a snack before we head back to Santiago.

At the end of the day, we will transfer back to Santiago for dinner at one of our favorite restaurants and a good night's rest.

Transfer to Teo after breakfast.

We walk from the hamlet of Teo to Santiago to complete our pilgrimage. Today is a day filled with anticipation and sadness. Some will want to go back and start again, not wanting the journey to end. But together, we will arrive in Santiago and celebrate a journey of strength and beauty.

At the end of the day, we will enjoy a communal dinner at the hotel and a good night's rest.

Enjoy a leisurely breakfast at the hotel, or attend a Pilgrim's Mass. Explore the old city, buy some souvenirs, and soak up the incredible atmosphere of Santiago!

In the evening, we will have a special celebratory multi-course dinner at the luxurious five-star Paradores Hotel to mark the end of this incredible journey.

After this crazy week, you might be seriously wiped out and want to go home. We completely understand!

However, some of you may want to spend a few extra days in Santiago or catch a short flight to either Barcelona (one of the world's most accessible cities) or Spain's capital, Madrid, which is also decently accessible.

If we need to postpone/cancel our trip due to COVID-19, we have a plan that ensures the safety of your money if:

• Covid-19 impacts the safety of the trip
• If yours or the Spanish government restricts travel
• If we are concerned about the health of our travelers

Should any of the above occur, you will have the option to postpone to a 2022 trip or receive a full refund.

All funds are held in an escrow account until the trips begin.

We strongly recommend that you get to Spain early enough so that you are rested and ready. If this means you need to be there a few days early, we can talk about it during your interview process.

Additionally, while you're over there, you may want to stay a few extra days and visit Barcelona (one of Europe's most accessible cities) or pop on down to Madrid to check out a bullfight and hang out. Again, we can talk about this during your interview.

We require the $100 refundable deposit to make sure people are serious about talking with us further.

We require an application because we need to get to know you and have a clear discussion regarding what this Accessible Camino is all about. Simply put, going on this group trip will be a challenge for all involved, and we don't want you to get hurt or regret going.

Once you pay your $100 (refundable) deposit and fill out the application, we will contact you and set up a time to talk either on the phone or via Zoom for 15-20 minutes (longer if needed).

Feel free to ask ANY questions you have, and we will do our best to answer them. We will ask YOU any questions we have based on your application.

After our discussion, if we decide that you are NOT a good fit for the group, we will immediately refund your $100 deposit. If we determine you ARE a good fit for the group, we will talk with you about next steps.

This is going to be a case-by-case scenario based on your application and interview. We don't want you to get into a harmful situation or in over your head.

If we decide you are not a good fit, please respect our decision.

We will ask you what your disability-specific needs are during your interview. If there is somebody specific like a friend, spouse, or caretaker that helps you with your care, we strongly recommend they join you on this once-in-a-lifetime journey. They will need to be in good physical condition and need to be a part of the interview process so we can vet them.

If you are unable to care for yourself, a companion is required for you to go on this trip.

We would LOVE for you to apply! When filling out your application, you will have the opportunity to clarify this, and we can talk with you further about how you can help. But, in a nutshell, you will be pushing, pulling, lifting, getting food, getting drinks for those who need it.

People often ask if they will be pushing the entire time. The short answer is no. We aim for a 5 to 1 ratio (if not higher) of helpers to those needing assistance. This way, there is plenty of time to take breaks and enjoy the experience.

We do not assign anyone to help a specific person. Rather, we encourage people to look for opportunities to be of service and to make sure we have two or three people with each wheelchair user at all times.

You should know that we give preference to people with limited mobility and their friends/family. But there is always room for those who want to help.

No. After your interview, and if we determine you are a good fit, you will be required to pay a 20% non-refundable deposit to secure your spot.

After your 20% deposit, you can either pay monthly, in chunks, or in total, as long as the entire balance is paid 60 days prior to departure.

We decided to omit lunches as part of the group pricing because everyone will be walking/rolling at different paces, and it would be nearly impossible to coordinate lunches together. The good news is, lunches on the Camino are inexpensive and can be quite good!

We recommend a Bocadillo (ham and cheese sandwich) and a Cafe con Leche. Yummy.

We pass through several towns on each day's hike. Packing a lunch is not necessary as each town has some great places to grab a bite. 

It is a good idea to carry some snacks in your daypack to make sure you keep your body fueled.

As we put this trip together, we tried to think of everything, including accessible ground transportation.

We have secured a transportation company that can handle wheelchairs, luggage, and extra people. They will pick you up from the airport, take you to the hotel, and back to the airport when the pilgrimage is over. Because we know that all of you will be coming in at different times, accessible transportation will be private transport.

We have chartered an accessible bus to transfer all group members to Lugo on our arrival day.

Additionally, we have a wheelchair-accessible support vehicle that will transfer all of us to/from various points on the Camino each day. This same vehicle will be available at predetermined locations along the route in case it is needed.

During this accessible group trip, we will spend our first four nights at the Hotel Bahai de Vigo in Vigo. This is a great hotel located in the beautiful town of Vigo (Close to our first 4 days' starting points). The last four nights of our journey will be spent at one of two great locations, Hotel Compostela Santiago or The Lux in Santiago. All hotels have been personally vetted by Camino Ways and us.

We have accessible rooms reserved. If you decide to apply, during the interview process, we will ask you what your needs are when it comes to accessible accommodations and will accommodate you as much as possible. However, you should know that availability is on a first-come, first-served basis.

Every airline treats accessibility a little differently, but there are some basic guidelines and tricks to traveling with a wheelchair. Justin will fill you in on how to navigate international travel with a wheelchair if you are selected.

In Santiago de Compostela, there is a medical supply company that can provide medical equipment like "Hoyer" lifts (a lift to get you out of your wheelchair into a bed/bathroom), commode chairs, extra wheelchairs, etc.

We will need to know about any specific equipment needs during your interview. 

The cost of additional equipment and the arrangement for delivery is your responsibility.

This journey requires a manual wheelchair. If you do not have one, don't worry. We can connect you with several different groups that offer grants that will pay for most, if not all, of a chair required for this journey.

We have had a number of individuals use their everyday wheelchair on the Camino by changing their tires to off-road ones and by using a Freewheel.

A Freewheel is a product that converts a four-wheeled wheelchair into a three-wheeled device. We can talk about how this works in your interview.

A journey of this type will require gear such as a pack, shoes, appropriate socks, and more. We have a private website where all these questions are answered for those who are selected to be a part of one of our trips.

Since we will be driving to and from our hotel each day, you will only need a daypack for the trail. This is a small, lightweight backpack good for carrying water, a rain jacket, and snacks.

Anything else you bring will be stored safely in your room.

This depends on when you decide not to proceed. There will be hard dates after you commit, and some of those dates will require you to forfeit any deposits you have made.

Payment Schedule:

If selected and to secure your spot in a group, you will need to pay a non-refundable deposit equal to 20% (or $770 USD) of the total price WITHIN 30 DAYS of initial invoicing.

The remaining balance (80% or $3080 USD) will need to be PAID IN FULL AT LEAST 60 DAYS before the start date of your trip.
